The river Aar at Solothurn

The city of Solothurn (French : Soleure, Latin : Salodurum) is situated at the southern foot of the Jura mountains in the Canton of Solothurn. Presently, four bridges do cross the river Aar (German : Aare) at Solothurn. Two additional bridges are being built and should be completed soon. From west to east, these are :
  • A new Aar bridge, currently being built, that will allow the transit traffic to avoid the area of the central railway station and will be part of the west tangent.
  • A footbridge to be built, situated close to the former one.
  • A railway bridge.
  • The bridge Wengibrücke which is important to the local traffic
  • The footbridge Kreuzackerbrücke reserved for pedestrians and bicycles which is leading into the heart of the old city.
  • The bridge Rötibrücke, which has been replaced by a completely new bridge, partially open now and to open completely in August 2007. In 2005, a temporary bridge has been build and the old Rötibrücke has been demolished. The Rötibrücke supports the transit traffic since many years and until the opening of the new west tangent.
