The Gorge of the Aar
In the Bernese Oberland, between Innertkirchen and Meiringen, the river Aar (German : Aare) did dig a very narrow gorge or canyon, the well known and absolutely stunning Gorge of the Aar (German : Aareschlucht). At some places the gorge is as narrow as one meter. Nevertheless there is a footpath going through the Gorge of the Aar from Meiringen to Innertkirchen (or vice-versa).
The tourist footpath through the Gorge of the Aar is paying. The tourists can start their hike at Meiringen or at Innertkirchen as they prefer. Those who do not want to walk back can take a local train running parrallel to the river through a tunnel in the rocks of the canyon. There is a railway station at each end of the canyon.
